Featuring cushion shape sugarloaf sapphire - approx. 3.25 carats (weight calculated by measurements) accompanied by AGL certificate stating that sapphire is natural, not treated Cambodia “Pailin” origin. Sapphire is beautifully cut and polished and displaying magnificent velvety blue color. The Dome Ring is decorated by 64 Brilliant Cut Diamonds: approx. 2.0 carats.

History of Pailin Sapphires: The area of Pailin in Cambodia has produced ruby and sapphire since the 15th century, with full-scale production starting there in 1875. At one time, more than half the world’s sapphire production came from Pailin. With its reputation for quality, Pailin sapphire played an important role until the late 1960s. It is very difficult to spot a Pailin blue sapphire in the market. The main reason for unavailability of sapphire stones in this area is due to the rule of Khmer Rouge in this region. This type of Pailin Sapphires are rarest and  closest in color to Kashmir sapphires (the world's most valuable). Experienced Gem collectors know the scarcity of Pailin Blue Sapphires as they are no longer mined today. Larger Blue Sapphires such as this one which has a nice saturation and a highly sought after velvety blue color are rated up highly as Kashmir Blue Sapphires and some believe these are even more scarce.
